Greg Odom started B&G Machine in 2001 and has made it into a successful family business. His wife, Sheila, works as Office Manager, his eldest daughter Makenzie works in design, his son Lucas earned his Advanced Manufacturing degree from Vincennes University and works as a machinist, and his youngest daughter Emma has a job shadowing many areas of the shop. Greg earned his AS degree in Electronics Engineering and a BS degree in Automated Manufacturing Technology from ITT Technical Institute. After he finished schooling, he worked at RiverCity Design & Mfg. until it closed. He was then faced with the difficult decision of what to do next. He then realized that he could open his own shop and provide work that he knew was needed.

Sheila and many of the employees would describe the place as a ‘Job Shop’. It is a fast-paced environment built on hard work and dedication from Greg and all the employees that work there. The Odom’s are vast into treating their employees like family and making the work environment a wonderful place to work. Each individual is needed at the shop and an important part of the process. They do a lot of work for local places and close regional areas as well. With Greg and his family living and working in Mt. Carmel they are big into helping and giving back to the community.

B&G Machine provides fabricated and manufactured machines for other manufacturers and businesses. The process always starts with a request for a quote from a customer. Greg and his team go over material needed for the job and number of hours to complete projects by department. The quote is then sent to the customer for approval and determines if any changes are needed. If agreeable to both parties, the customer will send a purchase order and the job is reviewed and information is given to Operations Manager and each department in the shop. The mechanical designers use SolidWorks and AutoCAD to draw a 3-dimensional image of the machine. Once they receive approval from the customer, the Bill of Materials is sent to the purchasing agent who orders all material for the job. Details are sent to the machine shop and once completed the details are sent to assembly technicians who will begin the process of putting the machines together. The electrical engineers will then begin to program, wire, and debug the machine. Upon completion, the customer will then come into the shop for final runoff of the machine and after being signed off on the machine can be delivered. Most of the clientele for B&G are in the automotive manufacturing business.
